Good evening ladies and gentlemen, my name is Adewale.
We will examine history and scripture to see if cursing is a sin; and discover what the Most High is really saying about our speech life.
The Most High is more concerned with the context and the spirit behind the words we use rather than the social stigmas we’ve attached to them according to thistles World. Matter of Fact, this World is backwards.
1 Corinthians 13:6 KJV
“Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;”
(All this is saying is Let us not rejoice in wicked Act or in Sin but in Truth which is the Word of the Most High through Christ in Righteousness)
2 Peter 3:9 KJV
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
(As we can see, it’s the Most High wish that no man would perish, but that all come to repentance so they can have eternal life. So in contrast, it’s against the will of the Most High to wish hell or misfortune on others.
In some cases, our enemies will stumble or receive judgment for their deeds in this lifetime, but Prov 24:17-18 says that we shouldn’t rejoice, “lest the Lord see it, and it displease him.” Likewise with David, when the final fall and judgment came to one of his enemies (Saul), David mourned his death instead of rejoicing (2 Sam 1:12). In All way, we have to execute Righteous Judgment with Knowledge from Above in all things)
The true meaning of love, as defined in the Bible, has been corrupted in the common usage of our English language and society. Most often, love is confused with infatuation – that elated, “high” feeling we get when we “fall in love.” This kind of “love” is something that lasts temporary unless replaced by true love which is applying the Word; which consist of the TWO GREATEST COMMANDMENTS Verbally defined by Christ according to Matthew 22:38.
The Bible indicates that love is from God. In fact, the Bible says, “God is love.” Love is one of the primary characteristics of God. Likewise, God has endowed us with the capacity for love, since we are created in His image. This capacity for love is one of the ways in which we are “created in the image of God-1 John 4:8 which his a precept to 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 KJV.
The Greek language (the language of the New Testament) uses two different words to describe and define love. The most commonly used Greek word translated “love” in the New Testament is “agape.” This love is represented by God’s love for us. It is a non-partial, sacrificial love probably best exemplified by God’s provision for our rebellion:
“For the Most High so loved (agape) the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). The gift of the Most High son as a provision for sin was given to the Children of Israel and Israel ONLY. Though, other Nations can be saved if they believe in him with their Works.
2 Peter 1:5-7 – KJV
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
(In all things, we have to show brotherly love to our people; dealing with them according to Knowledge, Temperance, been patient with them and display true Affection in godliness)
1 John 4:20 King James Version (KJV)
20 If a man says, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
(If we say we love the Most High and Christ and we HATE our brother, we are LIARS. How can we say the Most High and Christ that we have NOT seen and HATE his brother that has seen? ONE OF THE WAYS BY HATING YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IS BY CURSING THEM)
John 13:34-35 King James Version (KJV)
34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another?
(Christ gave us new Commandments that we should Love another as he has loved us by applying the Word in Truth. Knowing when to turn our Cheeks, Executing Righteous Judgments, Applying the Scriptures, Displaying Righteous Indignation/Anger When needed and More Importantly, Let’s be Christ Like as he is the perfect example of Righteousness NOT Speaking Evil against One another, An eye for an Eye, A Tooth for a Tooth, Recompensing Evil for Evil but rather Evil for Good with discernment.)
WHAT IS CURSING?
Well, if love is keeping the commandments by loving your neighbors as yourself, which comes with respecting one another, loving one another, make peace with your neighbors, helping one another, wishing them good and just things in life then hate will be the opposite. Often times, we hope that bad things will happen to our enemies or to people we envy (because of our pride) this is not of God but rather of Satan. When we speak evil of our neighbors and loved ones, whether in person or behind their back, it’s considered cursing.
Cursing is defined in the bible as: Speaking evil against someone, wishing misfortune on someone. A verbal curse was and still is considered to possess power of carrying itself into effect. There are two levels of cursing. The first level is to simply wish evil on someone and then to verbalize it, and the second level is when you go to demonic forces to ask for aid in carrying out your wishes (malediction). We are all victims of these two.
EXAMPLES OF CURSING IN THE BIBLE:
The Most High curses all snakes, Satan and the earth, making it hard to cultivate food in response to the disobedience of Adam, Eve, and Satan’s trickery (Gen 3:14-18).
Balak, king of the Moabites, pays Balaam, to curse Israel because he was afraid of them (Numbers 22-24). It never worked because God blessed them.
Noah passes out from drinking wine, his son, Ham, finds him naked and (in disrespect) tells everyone about it. Noah finds out and curses Ham’s children son, but blesses his other two sons for covering up his nakedness (Gen 9:20-27).
The Most High gave us two Choices: Blessings if we keep his Commandments and Curses if we BREAK his Commandments, which results in the Conditions of his people at this present state (Leviticus 26, Isaiah and Deut. 28:15-68).
As a regular Sunday going Christian, I was always scolded when I use words like which is highly common among Christian’s today
“WTF”-What the Fuck!
“Hell No!”
“You’re stupid! Dumb, Crazy OR Foolish!”
“Motherfucker”
“Fuck”
“Nigger”
WHY IS CURSING EVIL?
First, God created us in his image (Gen 1:27). God spoke the world into existence (Gen 1:24). Since we were made in the image of God, we have that same power to speak things into existence as God does. What we say may not manifest instantly but it can come to past. This is why God tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Prov 18:21). What we say about others and ourselves is able to come to pass bringing either life or death; therefore we shouldn’t speak evil against anyone or ourselves.
Matthew 5:22 KJV
“But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.”
(This Greek word RACA is a noun and comes from the Syriac/Aramaic.
Meaning: empty, empty-headed, stupid (without sense i.e., a numbskull who acts presumptuously and thoughtlessly), worthless, good-for-nothing derived from a root meaning “to spit”)
WHAT DID JESUS MEAN BY ‘fool’ in Matthew 5:22?
Did the apostle Paul appears to ignore Jesus’ warning because he calls the Galatians ‘fools’?
“You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.”
(Christ himself used the term ‘fool’ in a specific context, but what was it? The word fool today usually means “a senseless fellow, a dullard.” The biblical definition has the added dimension of “someone who disregards God’s Word. The Bible list many characteristics of such person, often contrasting him with one who is wise. The Ultimate description of a fool, either an elder or not is one who “says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good’ (Psalm 14:1, 53:1)
There is an important distinction between the biblical definition of a fool and the word Jesus used in Matthew 5:22 when he forbade calling your brother or sister a “fool”. The term raca spoken from a heart of contempt implied utter worthlessness. Christ was not saying that we couldn’t call the choices of another foolish. But to call someone raca was saying that this person was beyond the reach of the Almighty and therefore condemned forever. To say, “You fool” t to a brother or sister in that day was the equivalent of saying, Damn you! to someone today. We don’t have right to condemn anyone to hell. That position of judgment belongs only to God. )
